In the West Brant neighborhood, a discussion has emerged regarding the renaming of a street due to ongoing challenges faced by residents and delivery drivers. Longboat Run, which currently stretches from Hunter Way to Conklin Road before transitioning into Longboat Run West from Conklin Road to Gillespie Drive, has become a source of confusion and inconvenience.
Councilor Michael Sullivan (Ward 1) highlighted the issue during a recent council committee meeting, noting instances where deliveries were misdirected, causing frustration for residents and delivery truck drivers alike. The situation escalated when medicine intended for a woman with mobility issues was erroneously delivered to the wrong address.
To address these concerns, councillors have supported a resolution proposed by Sullivan to engage with property owners along Longboat Run regarding a potential name change to Longboat Run East. This resolution, which includes plans for a staff report post-consultation, received approval during the city council’s March 26 meeting.
Longboat Run currently hosts 10 municipal addresses, and the proposed renaming aims to streamline navigation and eliminate delivery errors.
Building upon this initiative, councillors are also considering a similar approach for Morton Avenue and Morton Avenue East, pending the success of the Longboat Run renaming. Councilor Greg Martin emphasized that residents on Morton Avenue face comparable challenges, with delivery drivers frequently confusing residential Morton Avenue with industrial Morton Avenue East.
Martin suggested renaming Morton Avenue to Morton Avenue West while retaining Morton Avenue East, citing incidents where incorrect deliveries led to financial losses for residents.
By addressing these street name ambiguities, the city aims to enhance efficiency in deliveries and alleviate frustrations for residents and delivery personnel navigating West Brant’s streets.
