Imagine being tied up in reusable grocery bags, unable to move, left on the side of the road with no one to help. That was the harrowing experience of a one-year-old charcoal grey and white cat, now named Matt, who was found by a compassionate jogger on Mile Hill Road in Paris.

According to Tracey Gibson, the owner/operator of Hillside Kennels Animal Control, the cat was tightly bound in bags, rendering him immobile and struggling for survival. Thankfully, the jogger, Matt, noticed the distressed feline and immediately contacted Hillside for assistance.

In a Facebook post, Gibson described the heartbreaking situation: “There was absolutely no way for him to move his legs or feet. He couldn’t get out. He was left there to die.” Despite the dire circumstances, Matt stayed with the cat, providing comfort until help arrived.

Upon rescue, it became evident that Matt the cat was not just physically resilient but also incredibly affectionate. Gibson remarked, “He is the sweetest cat ever. He is all purrs as soon as you come near him. He’s a lovely boy.” This resilience and gentle nature touched the hearts of many who learned of his ordeal through social media.

Gibson speculated about the motives behind such cruelty, suggesting that someone may have tied the cat up out of anger or to prevent it from returning home. She highlighted cats’ intelligence, noting that they can navigate back home even after being transported elsewhere.

Fortunately, Matt was found in time, and despite the tight bag around his throat, he was in good health. Gibson emphasized the importance of timely intervention, stating that another day or two could have resulted in a tragic outcome.

The response on social media was overwhelming, with nearly 500 comments and 1,800 shares condemning the act of cruelty and expressing support for Matt’s recovery and future well-being.

After being cared for at Hillside for four days and receiving necessary vaccinations, Matt was transferred to Toronto Cat Rescue for further assistance. Reflecting on Matt’s journey, Gibson urged people to adopt through reputable rescues, emphasizing that organizations like Toronto Cat Rescue provide vital second chances to animals in need.

Matt, named after his rescuer, is now in a foster home, embodying resilience and the hope for a brighter tomorrow. His story serves as a reminder of the importance of compassion, responsible pet ownership, and the lifesaving work done by animal rescues.
