The Norfolk County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is calling on the public to aid in identifying a suspect involved in the attempted theft of vehicles in Simcoe and Port Dover. The incidents, which occurred on Tuesday, have prompted an investigation by the authorities.In the first incident, police were alerted to an attempted vehicle theft at a Union Street address in Simcoe shortly before 4 p.m. An unidentified male attempted to gain entry into a vehicle on the property around 3:40 p.m. but was unsuccessful, causing minor damage before fleeing on foot.A similar incident was reported at 4:47 p.m. the same day at a Walker Street address in Port Dover. In this case, the suspect managed to forcefully enter the vehicle, again causing minor damage, but was unable to steal the vehicle. The suspect then fled the scene in a black SUV. Investigations have led officers to believe that the same individual was involved in both attempts.The suspect is described as a male with brown hair, approximately five feet five inches tall, wearing a green sweater, black shorts, black and white shoes, a brown hat, and a blue surgical mask.The Norfolk OPP urges anyone with information relevant to these incidents to come forward and contact them at 1-888-310-1122. Additionally, anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-9477 or online at helpsolvecrime.com, where tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.In a separate incident, a 48-year-old Norfolk County resident has been charged with spousal assault following an investigation into an intimate partner violence incident. Norfolk OPP responded to a call at a residence just after 10 a.m. on Tuesday, where a dispute between two individuals resulted in one person being physically assaulted, sustaining minor injuries. The accused has since been taken into custody.
