BRANTFORD – A fire that broke out early Sunday morning at a boarded-up home on West Street is being treated as suspicious, authorities confirmed.
Emergency crews were called to 342 West Street at 7:36 a.m., where they encountered heavy flames and smoke coming from all sides of the two-storey structure.
“First arriving units noted heavy flames and smoke showing from all sides of the building,” said Deputy Fire Chief Scott Pipe. “Crews managed to bring the fire under control quickly and conducted a thorough search of the premises.”
The home, situated adjacent to the plaza at Galileo Boulevard, was vacant at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported among firefighters or civilians.
As a precaution and to support firefighting efforts, Brantford Police closed West Street to through traffic between Galileo Boulevard and Charing Cross Street, with Harris Avenue also temporarily closed.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
